Ceramic Peening Process
Ceramic Peening Process is a method of processing a metallic gear with a direct pressure system and high velocity blast stream which enhances wear properties of the gear tooth, root radius and face.
The metallic gear is positioned in a patented 'hold down' (patent no. 5,272,893) to keep the metallic gear in one or more predetermined positions during the blasting operation, while continuously rotating the part.
Using a mixture of recycled ceramic and virgin media with a diameter of less than 250 microns screened at 100%, you receive a much higher KSI result on the tooth surface. As such, this process helps the surface retain beneficial oil in the small dimples, and eliminates gear tooth pitting.
